Join a full-day tour of Peninsula Valdés, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Travel through 400 km of Patagonian landscapes and encounter diverse wildlife depending on the season. From whale watching (June to November) to sea lions, elephant seals, and seabirds, every season offers a unique experience. Along the way, enjoy stops at Puerto Pirámides, Caleta Valdés or Punta Norte, and the Carlos Ameghino Interpretation Center. This excursion promises unforgettable encounters with both marine and land fauna.
The tour begins early in the morning with a journey to Peninsula Valdés, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. After about an hour, we arrive at Puerto Pirámides, where you can take an optional boat trip. Depending on the season, this could be a whale watching excursion from June to November or a sea lion and cormorant trip from December to March. Between April and mid-June, there are no navigations available.
Lunch, not included, will be scheduled at Puerto Pirámides or Caleta Valdés. Afterward, we continue to Punta Cantor to admire the Atlantic coastline and the striking geological formation known as Caleta Valdés. These beaches are often inhabited by southern elephant seals, the largest seals on the planet. Depending on the season and wildlife activity, this stop may be replaced by Punta Norte.
On the return trip, we stop at the Carlos Ameghino Interpretation Center, which provides an excellent overview of the peninsula’s natural richness. Throughout the excursion, there are high chances of spotting Patagonian wildlife such as guanacos, choiques, foxes, maras, armadillos, and skunks.

The land excursion operates year-round, but the wildlife changes with the seasons. Whale watching is normally available from mid-June to November, while summer and early autumn are better for sea lions, elephant seals, seabirds and broader coastal wildlife encounters.
Peninsula Valdes is a very large protected area, so this is a road-based full-day excursion covering long distances between wildlife viewpoints. The drive is part of the experience, with changing Patagonian landscapes and frequent opportunities to spot guanacos, rheas and other land fauna.
The route usually includes Puerto Piramides and then either Caleta Valdes/Punta Cantor or Punta Norte, depending on the season, road conditions and recent wildlife activity. The guide may adjust the route to maximize the quality of the day.
No. The classic land tour and the boat navigation are separate components. During the whale season you can add a whale-watching navigation in Puerto Piramides, subject to availability and weather conditions.
Bring layered clothing, a windproof jacket, comfortable closed shoes, sun protection, water and a camera or binoculars. Weather can change quickly and exposed coastal areas are often windier than Puerto Madryn.
Lunch is not included in the standard excursion. Time is normally allowed for lunch in Puerto Piramides or another suitable stop, and advance meal options may be available depending on the booking configuration.
No wildlife tour can guarantee specific animals because all observations are in natural habitats. The guide uses seasonal knowledge and current conditions to choose the most promising areas available that day.
The Classic Peninsula Valdes product focuses on the land circuit, with boat navigation offered separately when available. The Whale Watching version packages the land excursion together with the navigation during the appropriate season.
