Punta Loma protects a permanent sea lion colony and offers coastal viewpoints, seabirds and broad views of the Golfo Nuevo area.
The reserve is known for a year-round sea lion presence, although numbers, age structure and behavior can vary seasonally.
Animals are observed from designated viewpoints rather than approached directly. Distance changes according to where the colony is resting and the tide.
It is a relatively short excursion compared with Peninsula Valdes or Punta Tombo, making it suitable for a half-day or for travelers with limited time.
The activities are related to the same broader coastal environment, but a land-based reserve visit and a regulated snorkeling excursion are different experiences with different access points and logistics.
Bring a windproof layer, comfortable shoes, sun protection and binoculars or a camera if desired. Exposed coastal viewpoints can be windy.
Whales may sometimes be visible in Golfo Nuevo during the whale season, but the primary focus of Punta Loma is the sea lion colony.
