Is it worth adding Bahía Bustamante to my trip to Península Valdés?

It depends on your interests and the time available in your itinerary. If you enjoy remote, pristine nature, wildlife watching, and unique landscapes, Bahía Bustamante can be an excellent addition to your trip.

While Península Valdés is famous for its whales, sea lions, and orcas, Bahía Bustamante offers a more off-the-beaten-path experience, often referred to as the “Argentine Galápagos.” Here, you can see penguins, sea lions, guanacos, and a variety of bird species, including flamingos and cormorants. The area also has stunning coastal scenery, marine fossils, and native forests.

However, keep in mind that Bahía Bustamante is more isolated, requiring a long drive on gravel roads, and accommodation options are limited, mainly centered around the Bahía Bustamante Lodge. If you have at least two extra days and appreciate untouched nature, it’s definitely worth considering.

How to combine Puerto Madryn and Peninsula Valdes with Bahia Bustamente

Well, a good idea is to fly from Buenos Aires to Trelew, stay in Puerto Madryn as a city base to visit the Peninsula Valdes, Punta Tombo Penguin Reserve and other important attractions in the area and then continue by road (by renting a car or booking a private transfer) to Bahia Bustamante, driving to south direction. Then, finalize flying back to Buenos Aires from Comodoro Rivadavia, a city that´s closer than Trelew.
