Stand-up paddleboarding works best on Puerto Madryn’s managed urban beaches during calm, supervised conditions. Golfo Nuevo may appear flat, but offshore wind, cold water and boat traffic make casual independent launching risky.
Choosing a location
Use an authorized launch with lifeguard or operator guidance, clear separation from swimmers and boats, and an easy downwind return option. Central beaches can be convenient when designated zones permit; remote coves require more logistics and should not be selected from a map alone.

SUP is not a platform for approaching whales or sea lions. Never chase an animal or enter a restricted sector. Quiet boards can still disturb wildlife when they close distance.
For first-time visitors, I prefer a short lesson close to shore over an unguided rental. The skill that matters most is recognizing when wind has changed enough to end the session.
