From Puerto Madryn Airport to central Puerto Madryn
PMY’s main advantage is proximity. The airport sits just outside the city, and the road transfer to most central hotels is short. Even so, it is wise to have the accommodation name and full address available offline because apartments and smaller properties may not be familiar to every driver.
Taxi or remis
A taxi or remis is normally the easiest walk-up choice. A taxi may be available at the airport after a scheduled arrival; a remis is commonly prebooked at an agreed fare. Ask whether the price is fixed, how it is paid and whether a larger vehicle is needed for sports equipment, a wheelchair or several large suitcases.
Do not rely on a fare quoted in an old forum or blog. Argentine-peso prices change quickly. Confirm the current amount with the provider or airport information shortly before travel.
Prearranged private transfer

Puerto Pirámides is the only town inside Península Valdés and the departure point for whale-watching boats. The road distance from PMY is approximately 100 km. A direct vehicle follows the approach from Puerto Madryn toward RN3 and Provincial Route 2, passes the El Desempeño protected-area control point and continues across the isthmus to the village.
The drive is generally around 1.5 hours, but the entrance procedure and road conditions can add time. The protected-area ticket is separate from the transfer unless the service explicitly includes it.

Direct private transfer
This is the most practical option when Puerto Pirámides is the first accommodation. It avoids entering central Puerto Madryn, changing vehicles and waiting for the bus. Reserve before flying because the airport may not have a vehicle ready for a 100 km trip on demand.
Give the operator the flight number, passenger count, luggage details and hotel in Puerto Pirámides. Confirm what happens if the flight is delayed, whether the reserve entrance fee is included, and whether the driver can stop briefly at the checkpoint or visitor center.
Rental car
A rental car gives flexibility for Puerto Pirámides and later wildlife circuits. The approach to the village is paved, while many roads beyond it are gravel. Download an offline map and collect the vehicle with enough daylight to complete the drive comfortably.
If the flight arrives late, consider spending the first night in Puerto Madryn. Driving an unfamiliar Patagonian road after dark offers little benefit, and wildlife may cross the route.

The Municipality of Puerto Pirámides states that a Mar y Valle bus departs daily from the Puerto Madryn bus station. Schedules can change, and the service is much less frequent than an urban bus. First take a taxi or remis from PMY to the Puerto Madryn terminal, then connect to the intercity service.
Current journey planners estimate about 1 hour 20 minutes from the terminal to Puerto Pirámides once aboard. The complete journey is longer because it includes the airport-to-terminal ride and waiting time. Verify the day’s departure directly with the terminal or operator before relying on the connection.
What if the flight and bus do not connect?
Do not plan a same-day bus connection without a recovery option. If the arrival is delayed or the final bus has departed, the realistic choices are a private transfer or an overnight stay in Puerto Madryn. Book whale watching for the following day with enough margin to reach the pier and check in.
In my experience planning arrivals, the final bus of the day is not a good place for optimistic timing. The apparent saving can disappear if a missed connection requires a last-minute long-distance car or causes a lost hotel night in Puerto Pirámides.
